Located 37km from central Perth, Quinns Rocks started out as a
sleepy holiday village where Perth residents would have their
beach-side weekenders and holiday homes. More recently, as suburban
Perth crept up the coast, developers have stepped in and created the
Quinns we see today...
To
best describe Quinns it is best to break it down into three separate
areas: Firstly, "old Quinns" - nestling behind the beach front area,
a few streets wide where many of the old fibro weekenders have long
since given way to modern "mansions". However, there is still a
large variety of housing to be found catering for most tastes and
varying budgets. At one end of the beach, you'll find a caravan park
and a recently opened surf lifesaving club (with a restaurant due to
open very soon). Mid-way along the beach front there is a small
cafe, shop and bottle-shop. At the other end of the beach front lies
the dog beach.
The
second area within Quinns is the Norfolk Estate. This is adjacent to
Marmion Avenue and was the first area of "new" development within
Quinns - and it still can offer very affordable beach side living.
However (isn't there always a however when the word 'affordable' is
mentioned...), depending upon who you talk to, the Norfolk estate
suffers from a bit of a reputation. This could be, in part, due to
the high number of rental properties found there. It is of course a
matter of opinion as we have talked to people who have happily lived
there for many years - and don't have a bad word to say about it -
in fact before we bought our current house, we were considering a
property in the Norfolk estate until we found out that it couldn't
get broadband internet access. The property prices are certainly
rising fast in the Norfolk now, particularly as the newest
beach-side development progresses.
Quinns
beach is the latest area of development, cashing-in on the
popularity of other beach side developments like Mindarie, the next
suburb to the south. Whilst the development is well-established,
vacant blocks are still to be found, and building work is tailing
off somewhat. Like Mindarie, two-storey homes are popular where
ocean views can be had - and just like Mindarie, you'll have to dig
deeper into your pockets to buy in this estate.
Quinns
has one retail development with a 7-day late-opening supermarket,
pharmacy, post office. hairdresser, take-aways, hardware store and a
drive-thru bottle-shop. Nearby, you will also find a medical centre
(bulk-billing), pathology lab, x-ray clinic and a childcare centre.
Adjacent to that is Gunblossom park where many sporting clubs train
and play matches, with a community hall, bowling club and RSL
nearby.
Quinns has two public (government-funded)
primary schools, with three nearby private schools that cater for both primary and
high school children. Quinns is in the catchment
area for Clarkson public high school.
