Located 34km north of central Perth, Mindarie is an ocean-side suburb
with an upmarket feel. The focal point of Mindarie is undoubtedly
the marina. The boardwalk area boasts a hotel, pub, cafe and dive
shop, with provision made for many other small shops and
restaurants. Mindarie residents have 2 good beaches on their
doorstep, with the beach nearest the marina being popular with
surfers and body-boarders. The marina wall is a good fishing spot
for those hardy souls brave enough to weather the winter storms.
Elsewhere in the suburb you will find 2 separate retail developments
featuring a deli, supermarket, restaurants and take-aways, beauty
salons, video hire, medical centre and real estate agents amongst
others. Mindarie is also well situated for the Ocean Keys Shopping
centre - being just across Marmion Avenue in
Clarkson. Here
you will find 2 major supermarkets and a host of speciality stores.
It is currently being expanded with a new library just opened (where
you can get internet access) and a whole new set of shops due
to open in the near future.
Development commenced in Mindarie around 10 years ago, but most
houses are more recent, with a lot of building work still going on.
2 storey houses are popular here taking advantage of spectacular
views of the Indian Ocean. The flip-side of those spectacular views
however is the constant and strong wind.
Mindarie has 2 child care centres, one public (government-funded)
primary school, and two private schools (Peter Moyes Anglican
College and Quinns Baptist College) that cater for both primary and
high school children. Mindarie Senior College is a public high
school for Years 11 and 12 students. Mindarie is in the catchment
area for Clarkson high school.
